Sauna Kits (2026): Barrel, Indoor and Heater-Only Kits Compared

Almost every home sauna arrives in pieces. What changes is how much of the work you take on. This guide sorts kits into three levels, from least work to most: complete outdoor kits (barrel or cabin, heater included), indoor panel kits (a prebuilt room that goes inside your house), and heater kits for a sauna room you build yourself. Every price is the brand’s own listing on Oct 9, 2026. Most include an electric heater, and all electric heaters here need a 240V circuit installed by an electrician.

The Salem is the lowest-priced complete barrel kit in this comparison, and Almost Heaven lists its country of origin as the USA. It seats two on a 39¼"-long bench. The base price includes a 6kW Harvia KIP heater with dials, which needs 240V, 30A, hardwired, plus a separate 110V/15A plug-in for the light. The tradeoff is time: standard builds ship in 6–8 weeks. The quick-ship Salem kit ($5,484) ships within 4 weeks and swaps in the Wi-Fi KIP Smart heater, which Almost Heaven says reaches up to 194°F in 45–60 minutes. A floor kit is extra ($512 for the Salem size). Almost Heaven’s own price starts at $4,485; Select Saunas listed the standard Salem with the same 6kW KIP heater (KIP60B) at $4,176 on Oct 9, 2026, but doesn’t say which door or lumber that includes. Select doesn’t list the quick-ship Wi-Fi configuration, so that one has no buy link.

Redwood calls this an “easy to assemble sauna kit.” It seats 4–6 people, depending on seating arrangement, for about the price of a 2–3 person cedar barrel elsewhere. The wood is heat-treated hemlock, not cedar, and Redwood says no stain or sealer is needed for structural integrity. The 6kW KIP draws 30A at 240V, and the 8kW upgrade needs 40A. The weak spot is the warranty: 1-year limited on the sauna, versus Almost Heaven’s limited lifetime. Redwood’s porch version (6-person) was $6,499 on sale, down from $6,999 (see deals).

SISU sells one all-in price with the barrel, a heater and accessories, built in Ohio from U.S.-sourced cedar. Titan says two people can assemble the barrel in 2–3 hours. The HUUM Drop heater pairs with the HUUM app and UKU remote, so you can start heating before you head outside. Titan quotes 50–90 minutes to reach temperature, depending on target and weather. It costs more than a Salem with a Wi-Fi heater ($5,484) and seats the same two people. You’re paying for the SISU build and simple pricing. Electrical requirements aren’t on the listing, so ask before you order.

Level 2: Indoor panel kits

Indoor kits are prebuilt wall and ceiling panels that fit in a basement, garage or large closet. You still need a 240V heater circuit, but there’s no foundation, roof or snow to deal with.

*Brand prices on Oct 9, 2026. The Solara is infrared, not a traditional kit. We list it because Titan says it assembles in under 30 minutes, if speed is what you’re after. See traditional vs infrared for the differences.

• Need it fast and want room for two: the Redwood Alcove costs the least of the 2-person traditional kits here. Redwood says its prebuilt panels go together “in just a few short hours.” It includes a stool so you can sit on the raised upper bench.
• Short on floor space: the Almost Heaven Logan is a 1-person room about 4½ feet wide, made in the USA, with the same limited lifetime warranty as Almost Heaven’s barrels.
• Two people, longer warranty than Redwood: the Almost Heaven Hillsboro costs about $1,000 more than the Alcove. Almost Heaven lists Romania as its country of origin.

Level 3: Heater kits for a room you build

If you’re framing and lining your own sauna room, the heater is the main thing you buy. Size it to the room. Almost Heaven says the size of the sauna sets the kilowatt rating it pairs, so check the heater maker’s room-volume chart before you order.

*Brand prices on Oct 9, 2026. Redwood says its Wi-Fi power unit must sit outside the sauna within 13 ft, with the control panel within 16.5 ft of the power unit.

The wood-burning M3 avoids the 240V circuit entirely, which can matter for a cabin or a far corner of the yard. Almost Heaven says it suits smaller outdoor saunas and that wood-burning is recommended for certain outdoor models only. Check your local fire and chimney rules before you plan around it.

What a kit price usually leaves out

1. Electrical work. Every electric heater here needs 240V, typically 30A for 6kW and 40A for 8kW. Get quotes early. Redwood recommends at least two.
2. Foundation and floor. Outdoor kits need a level base. Almost Heaven suggests a 3–4" concrete pad or 4–6" of crushed stone, and sells barrel floor kits from $459. See our cold-climate install guide.
3. Roof. The SISU roof kit is $800 extra. Redwood includes shingles on its barrels and sells a beveled roof kit ($699) for the Extra-Wide barrel (paid link).
4. Freight and help on delivery day. Redwood ships in a wooden crate (about 85" × 45½" × 28½" for the Barrel 6) with curbside, appointment-required freight. You’ll need people or equipment to move it.

FAQ

Is a kit cheaper than building a sauna from scratch?

We haven’t priced a full DIY build (lumber, insulation, vapor barrier, door, benches, labor), so we can’t say. The heater kits above show the heater cost alone: $1,155–$3,939.

Can one person assemble a barrel kit?

The makers describe two-person jobs. Titan quotes two people and 2–3 hours for the Eddy, and Almost Heaven publishes construction manuals on each product page. Plan on a helper.

Which is better: cedar or heat-treated hemlock?

Both are used by established makers. Cedar is the traditional choice (Almost Heaven, SISU). Redwood uses heat-treated hemlock and says it needs no sealer for structural integrity. Let budget, look and warranty decide. More in best barrel saunas.
