An infrared sauna heats with wall panels instead of a stone heater, so the room air runs cooler and many models fit indoors on less power than a traditional sauna. We compared infrared options on price, fit, heater coverage, circuit, lead time and warranty, using makers’ published specs on Oct 13, 2026. We haven’t tested these saunas ourselves, and this page makes no health claims.

SaunaCloud doesn’t sell boxed sizes. You send rough dimensions, get 3D renderings and an itemized quote, then a cedar kit ships ($999 flat) with framing and electrical plans for your contractor. VantaWave carbon panels cover full walls, and SaunaCloud says room air typically runs 120–145°F. Residential warranty: heaters 7 years, power supply and controls 3 years.

Tradeoffs: SaunaCloud says installed projects typically run $6,000–$17,000; it takes two to three months; it doesn’t install; and the wood and red light system aren’t covered by the warranty.

Honest comparison: when a prefab infrared cabin is the better buy

If you want something you can assemble in an afternoon and plug into a regular outlet, a prefab infrared cabin is cheaper and faster than any custom build. We don’t currently have an affiliate relationship with a prefab infrared brand we’d recommend, so we aren’t linking one here. When you shop, check the panel coverage (how many walls), the circuit it needs, the wood, the heater warranty length, and whether the maker publishes its EMF numbers and how they were measured.

When you should skip infrared

How to choose an infrared sauna

  1. Measure the space. Custom builds fit odd spaces; prefab cabins need a fixed footprint plus clearance.
  2. Check your electrical. Small infrared rooms may run on 120V/20A; larger ones need 240V. Get an electrician’s quote early.
  3. Compare heater coverage and warranty, not just the price. More panel area means more even heat.
  4. Budget for install. SaunaCloud’s FAQ estimates $500–$2,000 for a contractor and $200–$800 for an electrician.

FAQ

How much does an infrared home sauna cost?

Prefab cabins vary widely. Custom builds cost more: SaunaCloud’s FAQ puts kits at $5,000–$15,000+ and installed totals at $6,000–$17,000.

Does an infrared sauna need 240V?

Not always. SaunaCloud says small 1–2 person builds use a dedicated 120V/20A circuit, while larger rooms need 240V at 30A or 50A. Traditional stone-heater kits like the Logan need 240V.

How hot does an infrared sauna get?

Cooler air than a traditional sauna. SaunaCloud says its rooms typically run 120–145°F air, with panel surfaces up to 190°F.

Did you test these saunas?
