Short answer: for most people the best outdoor sauna under $5,000 is the Almost Heaven Salem ($4,176 at Select Saunas): a made-in-USA red cedar barrel with a 6kW Harvia heater, a 30-amp circuit and a limited lifetime warranty. If you need four seats or want Wi-Fi in the box, the Backyard Discovery Paxton 2–4 ($3,499) and Henley 4–6 cabin ($4,999) are the value plays, but both need a 50-amp circuit. Prices and specs come from each seller’s product page on Oct 9, 2026. We haven’t tested these saunas ourselves.
- The sticker isn’t the bill. A 240V circuit, a level base and delivery typically add $1,000–$3,000. Use the calculator below before you commit.
- Amps matter as much as kW. Almost Heaven’s 4.5–6kW heaters need a 30-amp circuit; Backyard Discovery’s 9kW heaters need 50 amps, which can mean a panel upgrade in older homes.
- Some kits ship without a heater. SaunaLife’s package contents list no heater, so its $4,390 price isn’t comparable until you add one.

*Listed price on the seller’s site, Oct 9, 2026. Almost Heaven and SaunaLife models link to Select Saunas, a dealer that pays us a commission. Select doesn’t say which door or lumber its listed price includes, so confirm the configuration before you order. Backyard Discovery links are plain links; we earn nothing from them. Delivery, foundation and electrical work aren’t included in any price.
The picks, with the tradeoffs
The Salem is the cheapest way into a name-brand cedar barrel with a lifetime structure warranty. Select lists 1⅜"-thick ball-and-socket cedar staves, stainless bands, a 6kW Harvia KIP60B heater on a 240V/30A hardwired circuit, and 180–200°F in 45–60 minutes when properly installed. It weighs 540 lbs shipped, so two people and a level pad are enough. Who it’s for: couples and solo users who want real löyly (steam) and the longest warranty here. Not for: families; the 39" bench seats two. Tradeoffs: dial controls, no Wi-Fi, and no roof shingles in the base kit.
The Paxton is the lowest price in this list and comes with more in the box: a 9kW PrairieFire heater, Wi-Fi control panel, steel roof, bucket, ladle, LED lighting and a 5-year warranty that covers every component. Benches are 57" long, rated for 2–4. Who it’s for: buyers who want app control and no add-ons. Tradeoffs: Backyard Discovery specifies a dedicated 240V/50-amp circuit, which costs more to run than a 30-amp line and may not fit an older panel. The warranty is 5 years, not lifetime.
The only cabin here. Stacked two-tier benches (65" long) give you a hotter upper seat and a cooler lower one, and the flat walls mean taller people can sit upright anywhere. Same 9kW heater, Wi-Fi panel, steel roof and 5-year warranty as the Paxton. Tradeoffs: 50-amp circuit again, and at 90.8" deep including the roof overhang it needs the biggest pad on this list. The 2–4 person Henley is $3,999 if you don’t need six seats.

The Watoga is the Salem stretched a foot deeper, with a 51" bench rated for 2–4 people. Select’s spec list shows a 4.5kW heater on a 240V/30A circuit (Almost Heaven’s own base build lists 6kW), so ask Select which heater ships before you order, especially in a cold climate. Who it’s for: households that want room for guests without the 50-amp circuit the Backyard Discovery models need.
Same two-seat room as the Salem (71" × 39" inside), plus a 1-foot canopy porch with two outside benches for cooling off or holding towels. Select lists a 4.5kW Harvia heater, 180°F, and a limited lifetime warranty on the room. Tradeoff: you pay $746 more than the Salem for the porch and get a smaller heater.
SaunaLife E6: $4,390 + heater at Select Saunas
A 81"-diameter thermo-spruce barrel with a 6'5" interior height, 1.65" staves and curved backrests, so you can stand up inside, which few barrels allow. The catch: its package contents on Select list no heater, so add a heater and controls to the price before comparing. It only fits under $5,000 if you choose an inexpensive heater.

How to choose an outdoor sauna on a budget
- Check your panel first. A 30-amp circuit (Almost Heaven) is cheaper to run than a 50-amp one (Backyard Discovery). If your panel is full, the cheaper sauna can cost more installed.
- Count seats by bench length. 39" seats two, 51–57" seats two to four, 65"+ seats four or more.
- Barrel or cabin? Barrels cost less and shed snow; cabins give stand-up headroom and stacked benches. Our barrel vs cabin guide breaks it down.
- Warranty length varies 5× or more. Lifetime on Almost Heaven rooms vs 5 years on Backyard Discovery. On an outdoor structure, that’s worth real money.
- Plan for winter. Smaller heaters (4.5kW) take longer to heat in the cold. See our cold-climate install guide.
Can stretch the budget? Our best barrel saunas covers 4–8 seat barrels, and saunas under $8,000 adds infrared and cabin options. Waiting for a sale? Watch the sauna deals tracker.
FAQ
Can you get a good outdoor sauna for under $5,000?
Yes. On Oct 9, 2026, we compared six outdoor saunas from established sellers listed under $5,000, including the Almost Heaven Salem ($4,176 at Select Saunas) and Backyard Discovery Paxton 2–4 ($3,499). Budget another $1,000–$3,000 for electrical work, a base and delivery.
What electrical service does an outdoor sauna need?
Every traditional sauna on this list needs a dedicated 240V circuit installed by an electrician. Almost Heaven’s 4.5kW and 6kW heaters specify 30 amps; Backyard Discovery’s 9kW heaters specify 50 amps.
Is a barrel or cabin sauna better under $5,000?
Barrels give you more brands and the longest warranties at this price. The Backyard Discovery Henley 4–6 is the only cabin listed under $5,000 that seats six. See our barrel vs cabin comparison for the full tradeoffs.
Do these prices include the heater?
The Almost Heaven and Backyard Discovery prices include a heater and stones. SaunaLife’s E6 package contents on Select Saunas list no heater, so you’d need to buy one separately.
How long does a budget outdoor sauna take to heat up?
Select Saunas lists 45–60 minutes to 180–200°F for the Salem’s 6kW heater when properly installed. Cold weather, wind and smaller heaters add time.
